Donkey Kong is the titular main protagonist of the same name franchise. Although he is depicted as the main protagonist of his own series and appears as a supporting character in the Mario series, he wasn’t always that heroic, as proven when serves as the main antagonist of the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series, though he redeems himself at the end of each game.

His Evil Ranking[]

His Villainous Deeds[]

  • In the first game of the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series, he trespasses the Toy factory and in the process, he scares the three Toads and stole the Mini-Mario Toys.
  • After being stopped by Mario, DK refuses to stop and continues his journey.
  • He tries to defeat Mario in order to prevent him from handing back the Mini-Mario Toys.
  • When realizing he lost the stolen Mini-Mario toys and being laughed at by Mario, the three Toads, and said toys, DK went berserk and kidnaps the three Toads. The remake would depict the action as unprovoked, since Mario and the Toads don’t mock him.
  • In Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis, during the grand ceremony of the new amusement park, when Pauline chooses the Mini-Mario toy over his Mini-Donkey Kong, it enrages DK so much that he kidnaps her, while breaking down with the sales of the Mini Mario Toys.
  • In Mario vs Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem, he got enraged when he was told by Mario that he was the 101st guest, inciting Donkey Kong to kidnap Pauline again.
    • After being defeated in the first final battle, he refuses to concede defeat and kidnaps Pauline for the second time.
  • Even when having heroic roles, he is still prone to being a bit childish, lazy, arrogant, and lethal at times.
    • In games like Donkey Kong Jungle beat Returns and Tropical Freeze, he lets his anger get the best of him and he beats up multiple animals just because he thought they were stealing his bananas. Granted, they were villains and he may be trying to get back what is rightfully his, but he does this out of revenge and spite.
  • In the intro to Mario SUper SLuggers he brutaly rams into Luigi.

Why He Doesn't Pass the Baseline?[]

  • His crimes amount to kidnapping and theft, which are considerably harmless and makes him too bog standard to pass the general baseline.
    • On top of that, he also never truly attempts to murder anyone.
  • He fails the heinous standards too much when compared to numerous villains in the Super Mario universe. Although it’s unfair to compare him with Bowser and Princess Shroob due to those two having more resources, he does fail the heinous standards to other villains such as Bowyer, Wario, Waluigi, Birdo, and Cranky Kong who all have similar or less resources than Donkey Kong.
  • He has numerous heroic roles in the Donkey Kong series, often saving DK Island from King K. Rool and other threats.
  • He is shown to have a plethora of comedic moments, even in his antagonistic roles.
  • In every Mario vs. Donkey Kong game, he ends up redeeming himself and shows remorse for his actions.
  • Despite kidnapping her, in March of the Minis he left Pauline in a comfortable room filled with gifts and treats, presumably to impress her. In later games, those two become good friends.
    • In two instances, Pauline plots alongside DK to pretend that he kidnapped her, either to test the Mini-Marios or lure Mario to a surprise party.
  • He deeply cares about his best friend Diddy Kong, as well as the Kong Family.
  • Due to being kidnapped and tortured by King K. Rool couple of times, being turned into a trophy by Bowser in Super Smash Bros Brawl and into a statue by a Dry Bones in Mario Party DS, he can be considered a scapegoat.
  • When not in conflict, he is usually on good terms with Mario in the kart-racing, sports and party games, and even occasionally assists him in defeating Bowser.
